Paul Gambacini tells Claudia Winkleman about the recording which in 1976 spent the shortest time at the top of the UK singles chart..
Something In The Air was an iconic song by Thunderclap Newman, but surprisingly, the band had never played together before recording the song. The band had been put together by Pete Townshend to showcase the talents of drummer and vocalist Speedy Keen (formerly Townshend's driver) and virtuoso teenage guitarist Jimmy McCulloch. Townshend asked self taught pianist Andy "Thunderclap" Newman to join the band and although Andy met Speedy Keen one week before the recording date, he only met Jimmy McCulloch on the day of the recording.
